about me

Andres Marti (Bogotá, 1988) is a visual artist whose practice explores the body as a symbolic and emotional surface, engaging with themes of identity, memory, and image construction. Working across photography, collage, painting, and installation, his work often inhabits liminal spaces—thresholds where meaning, perception, and form remain in flux. He studied Industrial Design at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia) and earned a Master's in Artistic and Documentary Photography at TAI (Spain). His work has been exhibited at institutions such as Círculo de Bellas Artes, Galería Modus Operandi, Galería Nueva, Studio RGF, Espacio Ronda, Barcú (Bogotá), and the Colombian Consulate in Madrid. He has received distinctions such as the TAI Foto VI Grant, the WeNow Visual Arts Award, and the Museo Thyssen’s Versiona Prize. Marti has participated in residencies including NY20+ Chengdu (China), PAAL Madrid, and the Youmein Festival in Tangier. He currently lives and works between Madrid and Bogotá.

Statement:

In my work, I investigate the body not as a represented entity, but as a symbolic, affective, and political territory—a space where tensions, memories, and desires are inscribed. I understand it as a contested surface, a threshold between the visible and the repressed, between the biographical and the imagined.

I conceive the image as a living organism: fragmentable, intervenable, traversable. I’m interested in the moment when the image overflows its own form—when it folds, breaks, deforms, and reveals what remains unsaid. I work from the fold as a formal and conceptual strategy: a space where what has been and what has not yet been named coexist.

My work explores the liminal and the queer, understanding identity as an unstable and plural process. Through photography, collage, painting, and textile sculpture, I construct images where the archive, the body, and digital technique intersect to activate narratives that do not seek to fix meaning, but to open spaces of transition and transformation.

I work between the analog and the digital, exploring the boundaries between materiality and illusion. I am particularly drawn to how photography, collage, and painting can generate images in which the digital acquires a tactile quality and the painterly evokes the immaterial. In this friction—between the visible and the latent, the processed and the gestural—I use art as an act of aesthetic and political resistance against normative logics of gender, linear temporality, and fixed representation.

My work engages with decolonial, queer, and post-photographic discourses, and unfolds as an expanding archive of otherness. I do not aim to represent the real, but to activate zones of instability—from which to see, feel, and remember otherwise..
